What is a CCBHC Advisory Board?

A Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) advisory board is a group of people who provide input on the development and implementation of CCBHC programs. The board's recommendations help ensure that CCBHCs are representative of the communities they serve.

Expectations of Advisory Board Members

Goal of Advisory Board

Pawnee Mental Health (Pawnee) values the input and voices of consumers, their families, and community partners. Therefore, Pawnee has implemented an Advisory Board as part of its standing board committee structure and bylaws.

The Purpose of this Board Is To:

  • Identify community needs, objectives, and goals. For example, review community needs assessments and discuss what members see as gaps in services and how Pawnee can fill them.
  • Service development and quality improvement. For example, provide feedback based on experiences with Pawnee, contribute to discussions about ways the organization can improve current services.
  • Provide feedback on new projects and programs being implemented at Pawnee.
  • Meeting new staff members and reviewing current openings.
  • Any feedback will be provided to the Pawnee Board of Directors by the CCBHC (Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic) Director, once a quarter.
  • Provide feedback and review Individual Placement Support (IPS) service delivery, program implementation, fidelity, and principles.

Expectations of Members:

  • It is preferred that members will have lived experience of mental health and/or substance use disorders or be a family member of a person with lived experience.  If a member does not, they need to have expertise in health services, community affairs, local government, finance and accounting, legal affairs, trade unions, faith communities, commercial and industrial concerns, or social service agencies within the communities Pawnee serves.
  • Meetings are held bi-monthly, meaning there are six meetings annually. This may be subject to change based on need. If a member is unable to attend, at least a day’s notice must be given to the CCBHC Director. If a member misses one meeting without notice, an attempt to contact them will be made. If a member misses two meetings with no contact, the Advisory Board may relinquish that member’s position.
  • Actively participate in functioning of the board by engaging in conversations, making obtainable recommendations, and providing constructive feedback.
  • All members are expected to engage with one another in a respectful and kind manner, and to appropriately respond to conflict if necessary.
  • Be available for individual consultation with the CCBHC Director. • Occasionally accompany CCBHC Director for personal solicitation of candidates to the Advisory Board.
  • Provide testimonials to help recruit new members to the Advisory Board.
  • Tutorials for Rules of Order will be provided to board members. A review of these will be conducted at the first board meeting. Subsequently, new members are expected to review them before they attend their first meeting. Technology to do so is available, if needed. CO202303F | Updated 02/06/2024

Terms of Office:

  • Advisory Board members are elected to serve a one-year term to allow room for new members. Current members can be reelected to a maximum of three consecutive one-year terms at the discretion of the other board members. It is recommended that after one year, each member reflects on and assesses if they wish to serve another term and why. This feedback will be provided to all the board members.
